| June 13 2010 | My dragonboat team Knot-A-Breast WON the International Breast Cancer Survivor Event in Peterborough on June 13 2010. 73 Teams from - Australia, New Zealand, Italy, South Africa, UK, USA, & Canada participated in this fantastic event. 2004 women and 3 men breast cancer survivors attended and a great time was had by all. Peterborough did a wonderful Job organizing the event and the people were very fantastic. CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE

| June 11-13 2010 | I attended the International Breast Cancer Survivor Event in Peterborough together with my friend Loraine. We met Dr. Don MacKenzie who was instrumental in starting this phenomenon called Dragonboating for breast cancer survivors. He asked a group of women in BC if they would be part of an experiment to do strenuous upper body exercise. This was to dispel the belief that after breast cancer surgery survivors shouldn’t do upper body exercise because of the risk of lymphedema (swelling of the chest or arm). After the experiment, which was successful, the women decided to form a team and keep paddling. Since then, the sport for survivors has grown to become worldwide.

| June 11 2010 | On Friday June 11, there was a parade down the main street which was amazing to be part of. People came to welcome us along the route and even the police got into the spirit of the event. Saturday night there was a gala, the highlight of which was when Michael Burgess sang. We had fun, we cried, we met people from around the world and celebrated life. The next International event will be in 2014 and I certainly hope to be there, wherever it is in the World.
